This is a group weekly class. We start with a physical and vocal warm up. Fusing movement and sound widens each performer’s vocabulary and reveals the solidity of your technique. We explore how to find personality in the core of movement, making each vibration, breath and action about something individual. You experience a better way of handling your energy and the space around you, towards an efficient way to present your work. You become in touch with your body and aware of how you express yourself physically, vocally and emotionally. (Class is 2 hours and costs $30 paid at the door)
Flo Ankah’s technique, “body-voice: creative instrument™” is used by the singers of Melodia Women’s Choir in New York City before each rehearsal. By combining movement and voice in her very unique way, she has given us a strong technical basis for promoting vocal health, for enhancing stage presence, and for authentically conveying the meaning of the music.—Cynthia Powell, conductor
In Flo Ankah you will find a teacher who deepens your understanding of your own body and voice. Her workshops are a way to keep in touch with the skills of a performer and will simultaneously inspire you to continue exploring your technique. She reminds you not to accept the limitations you put on yourself and to freely explore the potential of your own body. —Aoife Courtney, actress
Why didn’t anyone come up with this before? It challenges your deepest emotions and sets you free. Amazing! —David V. Koenig, lawyer
Taking the “body-voice: creative instrument™” class has helped me free my voice and get more confidence when speaking in public. I could already see the results after a few classes. —Dania Antinori, choreographer
I’m always looking for ways to expand my training. Flo integrates exercises to free the voice in a supported and dynamic manner. Then with it, she combines challenging creative movement work. I walk away from her class feeling strengthened and having discovered a new approach to my instrument. Her enthusiasm, training and adjustments are spot-on. —Tom Cleary, actor
I enjoyed taking Flo’s group class. It was a nice way to meet new people and learn about her theory. I liked using sound and movement together, in a way that I wouldn’t ordinarily, to experience a new way of experiencing my body. I think an individual class would be even better….highly recommended! Thank you! —April Dolan, painter
Flo Ankah uses an exciting and fun way to improve speaking and body language. There was definitely an improvement in the way I project my voice – and that was after my first session. Anyone, even those who consider themselves good speakers, will benefit from this workshop. —Rod N.
